After many polls, discussions and debates, TLC was officially renamed Ars Technica yesterday. Of course, to pretty much everyone who has ever run SETI for Ars, it will still be TLC. But the effect of bringing TLC into the enlarged cross-project Ars Technica team will see Ars Technica move from 26th and 29th to 10th world wide. See this BOINCstats.com page. So where to now?

The Ars Food Court was recently moved to a new server so I spent a bit of time tidying thinks up by pulling out some of the old team sites that were sat in directories gathering dust on the old server and collecting them together. Enter the Ars Food Court Archive.
Enjoy the nostalgia!

The core Ars DC site, the Ars FoodCourt, has had a major software upgrade. Some features that were previously not working or had limited functionality, are now working very well. I will outline a few of the main improvements to have been made to the site in no particular order. - The AFC now has a Wiki module installed. It if a fully functional wiki, based upon the ErfurtWiki software
- The user blog is also fully functional, with more features and better controls.
- A web based visual editor for MS IE and Gecko (Firefox, Mozilla), called TinyMCE has been installed. It works for all textarea entry forms, apart from the Wiki ones
- The Comments function has been restricted to registered users. This is because there were too many spam comments from anonymous users.
- The Ars Technica News feed is back and working.
- The core software, including some major security fixes, has been upgraded
- The site themes are upgraded
- Plus lots of minor updates and fixes all around.
I hope the FoodCourt will be used, as it does contain a lot of useful information for Distributed Computing enthusiasts. Any registered user can play around with the site. If there is anything missing, or if you fell like helping out, then please join in.

The site is back up and running thanks to the hard work of heretic and JDAW. Most things are working after the upgrade but there are a few functions not quite right that are still being worked on.
If you spot anything that is broken then add a comment, pop into IRC (channel #afcdesign) or post in the Ars forums

Client v5.04 Public Beta Released
Client v5.04 is in public beta for Linux and Windows (console). It allows configuration of the amount of memory reported and the setting of advmethods through the [client]Configuration so that it persists [outside of the command line]. This is a maintenance release, with more signficant improvements coming in v.6. See

New Assignment Server (AS) fallback scheme.
We've implemented a new AS fallback scheme for how WUs are assigned. We will talk more about about how this works once we see if it works well. It's now being tested on both ASes.
QMD re-release complete
QMD's are now going to machines reporting 504MB or more and with the appropriate flags (BigWU + advmethods). We're now back to the previous value.
